Maximising Tree Work

This week we have been clear felling a site in Poole for a customer to convert into an equestrian paddock. The trees were medium to large in size. As part of the two day project we also carried out stump grinding of the felled trees and processed the timber into firewood using our on road processor.

The job was very intense and with the work all being carried out on the same site it was very evident at how productive a tree job could be without the numerous clean ups and travel between sites. For getting the most out of the tree work you require it is definitely worth getting more work done, if you have it, to get more for your money. Alternatively, we would suggest teaming up with a neighbour or close friend to eliminate the tree teams travel and maximise their work on the trees.

Dead Horse Chestnut trees

Over the past couple of weeks at Piper Tree Services we have had the task of dismantling 2 mature dead horse chestnut trees. The first was in Sherfield English and was dead due to honey fungus. A contagious disease that can affect any tree and causes the trees root ball to deteriorate rapidly, this unfortunately means that the tree must come down.

The second Horse chestnut we dealt with was located in Bitterne, Southampton. This specimen had no visible signs of honey fungus but a nearby tree had already fallen of its own accord. As this neighbouring TPO tree was dead, it's removal was covered by the dead, dying and dangerous act, which meant its removal was completed within 5 working days of notifying Southampton City Council. Both trees have since been processed at our recycling yard into instant seasoned firewood.
